Vital Spark Recording Studio, Waterloo, Isle of Skye

Mixing Console: The legendary Sony DMX-R100 encased in an American custom-built “Argosy” DMX-R100 mother console. The Sony DMX-R100 is derived from the legendary Sony “Oxford” console, and has great mic.amps and onboard compressors/limiters.

Main Monitoring: Quested SM326 3-way crossover into three Quested AP-700 amplifiers into a pair of Quested HQ210 passive monitors.

Nearfield Monitoring: Quad 520F rackmount amp. into mounted Yamaha NS10s.

Outboard: Powered through “Cleanact” mains distribution to APPLEMAC G4 to ProTools version 6.4.1 + bags of plug-ins (constantly upgraded).
Outboard processers include the excellent “Sonicomp” compressor, the fantastic “Transient Designer”, Lexicon reverb & TC M2000. Our outboard equipment is constantly being added to and upgraded, but we also find that most producers of note tend to bring along their own familiar toys.

Control room: A spacious area 7.5m by 4m, we look out onto Broadford Bay from the mixing console, and the room engenders a creative atmosphere that is lacking in most other recording studios; in short, the view from our control room is second to none and probably the best in the UK.

Live Rooms: The main live room (“the drum room”) is 4.3m by 2.3m, the smaller “dead room” is 2.6m by 2.5m and is very suited to overdubbing vocals or close-miked solo instruments.

Mastering facilities: as well as providing total digital mastering, our facility also includes a quarter-inch Revox C-270 (with optional Dolby”A” for archiving or transferring your old pre-1980 quarter-inch tapes to the digital medium).
